Modern Rocks Gallery
Biographical Info
Modern Rocks Gallery in Austin presents a curated collection of fine art rock n roll photography and art, with signed limited edition, museum-quality prints from award winning photographers, artists and album cover designers.
The prints come directly from the photographers themselves, and our philosophy is to accord recognition to the art of rock photography and to help maintain the rights of its practitioners. Featuring works from legendary rock photographers such as Don Hunstein, Bob Gruen, Terry O’Neill, Allan Tannenbaum, Mick Rock, Brian Duffy, Baron Wolman, Geoff MacCormack, Art Kane and Jill Furmanovsky to name but a few, Modern Rocks Gallery features iconic images of rockers from Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, David Bowie and Pink Floyd to The Sex Pistols, The Clash and The Ramones. All the prints are printed to the highest quality, signed by the photographer where possible and hand numbered.
We also proudly hold our own exclusive gallery collections, including the highly acclaimed outtakes from Kirk Weddle’s iconic Nirvana underwater photo shoot from the band’s groundbreaking “Nevermind” release. The Scott Newton Archive, is a fascinating snapshot of the early days of the vibrant Austin music scene at the beginning of the 1970’s from the long time Austin City Limits photographer, and “The Smiths and Friends” from photographer Stephen Wright featuring arguably one of The Smiths best known album cover shots taken outside the Salford Lads Club for the inner sleeve of The Queen Is Dead.
Owner Steven Walker fell in love with Austin while touring as the guitarist for Modern English. As a professional musician for over twenty years with the likes of Modern English and Britpop darlings The Auteurs, Steven’s love of photography began while documenting life on the road to ease the boredom that comes with constant touring. After taking a break from life on the road, Steven managed a highly successful gallery in London’s exclusive Chelsea neighborhood dealing with top international interior designers on a daily basis. Steven continued to pursue his love of rock photography. He started shooting bands in his home town of London and soon became a published photographer. Over the years Steven amassed a wealth of experience in the world of rock and roll, in gallery management and rock photography. And so, Modern Rocks Gallery is a unique marriage of his life loves in his favorite city.
